John O. McGinnis, George C. Dix Professor in Constitutional Law at Northwestern examines factors that have contributed to the decline in applications to law school. In his opinion, "The most important cause of the decline in demand for legal services is technological shock."
This reminds me of the article, "How Technology is Destroying Jobs" from MIT Technology Review. As software increasingly "eats the world", how will it erode the formerly "safe-from-automation" white collar jobs – since as we've seen, "even relatively high-skill work in education, medicine, and law is affected."

The loss of jobs through "technological shock" reminds me of this video, "Humans Need Not Apply" that went viral a while back. There's a section in it that specifically talks about how machine learning can impact fields like medicine, where programs can take a list of symptoms and return a diagnosis with a pretty good level of accuracy.
One of the things that I was taken aback by in the video was the warehouse robots. At that point I only thought of small robots as "Roomba-like", I had no idea they had become so advanced.
